SIN
Buried or Dead?
Once we accept JESUS and are saved by His BLOOD, a profound question often arises: What happens to our SIN?
Is it truly gone forever, or does it just get buried, lying dormant, but capable of resurfacing?
This question is essential because it addresses our daily struggle with SIN and the path we walk in faith.
Let’s break this down, beginning with what happens when we’re saved. By God’s grace, the blood of Jesus covers our SINS entirely and positions us as righteous in His eyes. This righteousness is a gift, unearned and undeserved, meant to bridge the gap between us and a HOLY GOD. But despite this gift, our daily lives often remind us that SIN hasn’t vanished entirely. Instead, we still wrestle with it. For many of us, it feels like SIN is buried within, still present and still able to resurface.
Buried Sin or True Freedom?
One way to look at it is that sin may be “BURIED” in our SOULS. When we first come to Christ, His SPIRIT enters our hearts, guiding and strengthening us. However, even with the Spirit’s guidance, our human nature, which tends to rebel, remains.
This nature can cause our old SINS to resurface, especially during times of weakness or when we distance ourselves from God. In other words, the SIN might not be fully dead, but rather restrained or covered by the grace of God. Without constant reliance on the HOLY SPIRIT, sin can rise back to the surface.
This is why living a life filled with prayer, accountability, and worship is crucial. With each day, the Holy Spirit helps us dig a deeper “GRAVE” for our SINFUL desires. Through self-discipline and spiritual growth, we bury these sins deeper and deeper. But as long as we’re in this life, SIN is never fully gone. We have to continually dig, seeking God’s strength to overcome temptations.
The Holy Spirit: Our Daily Strength
The Holy Spirit empowers us to resist SIN, renew our minds, and cultivate a heart aligned with God’s will. This doesn’t mean we become perfect; in fact, the Bible makes it clear that while we live in these earthly bodies, we’ll never be without flaw. But it does mean we have the power to continually fight against SIN and experience true freedom from its chains.
As we let the Holy Spirit lead us, we build habits that distance us from our old selves. But these habits are only effective when maintained. Without constant engagement with God—through prayer, reading Scripture, and connecting with other believers—old SINS can easily rise to the surface. It’s a daily journey of surrendering, relying on the Holy Spirit to “bury” SIN deeper and helping us experience God’s victory.
Eternal Freedom in the Afterlife
Our struggle with SIN ends when we enter the afterlife. For believers, this means complete and eternal freedom. In God’s presence, we’ll be fully cleansed, and SIN will no longer have any hold on us. In the afterlife, SIN’S power disappears completely for those who follow Jesus.
But for others, the journey may be different. In “HOOD HEAVEN,” a state for those who haven’t yet entered God’s Paradise, SIN might still exist. Those who find themselves there will still have the chance to grow and obey God.
They’ll have the opportunity to continue a journey toward redemption, moving closer to God’s Paradise as they learn to love and obey Him. It’s a place of mercy, where those who have fallen short can still work toward the perfection and fullness found in God’s kingdom.
A Daily Choice
So, is SIN buried or dead?
In this life, it’s buried, not gone. But with the Holy Spirit, we have the power to keep burying it deeper, fighting to make it less visible in our lives. It’s a daily choice, requiring God’s help, and one day in eternity, that struggle will end.
As we journey on earth, let’s live with the hope of a future where SIN is no more. With our eyes on eternity, we can rest in knowing that one day, SIN will be dead entirely.
And until then, we press on, relying on the strength and guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT to bury SIN deeper, allowing God’s LOVE and GRACE to shape us into His image.
